About the Suckler Carbon Efficiency Program

SCEP supports beef farmers to improve the environmental sustainability of the national beef herd. The programme aims to build on the gains delivered in recent years through previous schemes by improving the genetic merit of the Irish suckler herd.

Frequently asked questions

If you are having problems gaining access to the SCEP Learning Portal, please check below for answers to common questions.

A letter outlining the details on how to access the training, including your unique pin to use when activating your account, is available on Agfood account under the link for Suckler Carbon Efficiency Programme. Participants who have opted out of text messages will not receive a text message, but will still have access to the letter in their Agfood account.

If you have any issues in accessing your Agfood account, you should contact the Helpdesk at 057 867 4422 or by e-mail at scep@agriculture.gov.ie.

  1. Select 'Activate account'.
  2. Enter your 'Herd number' as well as your 'PIN number'. You should have received your PIN number from DAFM. Select 'Continue'.
  3. Enter a custom password for your account, this must be between 6-12 characters and numbers. It cannot contain spaces, special characters or emojis.
  4. Choose a security question and then provide an answer. Ensure that you do this accurately as if you lose your login details we will need this to assist you.
  5. Enter an email address, unique to you, that you have access to.
  6. Select 'Continue' to complete your account activation.
  7. You can now continue to log in to the SCEP Learning Portal using your herd number and the password you have just created.

  1. Go to https://sceptraining.ie/forgot-password and submit your herd number. We will send an email to the address you entered during account activation.
  2. Go to your email inbox ensuring you also check your spam/junk folder if it is not in your main inbox.
  3. Click on the link and type in a new password. Please note, your password must be between 6-12 characters and it cannot contain spaces, special characters or emojis.
  4. Continue to sign in using your herd number and new password.

The pin is the code that you received from the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine. This allows you to activate and set up your account.

Once your account has been activated, you should still keep a note of this number.

Your password is chosen by you during account activation, and is then used during subsequent logins.

The training can be completed on a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or your phone. The best browsers to use for optimal experience are Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. If you are having access issues on one browser, it is recommended that you try another. 

Safari browser on iPhone, iPads and other Apple devices can be used to access the training, but it may be necessary to deactivate a setting on your Safari settings to access full functionality of the training. The following steps should be taken to turn off 'prevent cross-site tracking' temporarily whilst accessing the training on Safari: 

Safari on macOS

  1. Open the Safari menu.
  2. Select Settings...
  3. Select the Privacy tab.
  4. Make sure 'Prevent cross-site tracking' is not ticked.
  5. Close the Settings window.

Safari on iOS

  1. Open phone Settings.
  2. Select the Safari app.
  3. Scroll down to 'Privacy & Security'.
  4. Make sure 'Prevent Cross-Site Tracking' is off.
  5. Return to the Safari browser app.
